Roll out: City cycling in the Netherlands for The Independent

In the process of researching and writing this feature about city cycling in the Netherlands, I met Chris Bruntlett - a Vancouverite living in the Netherlands and working for the Dutch Cycling Embassy. One thing he said about cycling-v-driving was particularly impactful: “The greatest trick the car industry ever pulled was convincing the world they needed 1,500kg of machinery to move 15kg of stuff.”

Insightful quotes, illuminating images, and a ‘how to’ focus on Amsterdam, Utrecht and the Hague, all brought the piece to life, hopefully awakening readers to the utopian possibilities of cycling at home and away.
